I made myself a cup of coffee this morning and when I went to take the cup in my hands it was warmer than expected and I quickly set it down. With time on my hands and not particular plans my eyes fell to a chiromancy hand in a case and then to a cutout of hands guiding a planchette. it seems there are hands everywhere in my home. tiny ones, plain ones and gilded ones.
Why am I so drawn to the most oft symbolized part of the human body? They are used to give and receive, to express or hide ones self, to push away or to pull closer. Cultures across continents use hand as mystical symbols, the Hamsa, Mudra hands, Claddagh, the Hand of Mysteries, Mano Figa, The Divine Hand, they are littered across humanity to show love, to ward off evil or to attain enlightenment.
I could spend countless hours going down a hand rabbit hole trying to deconstruct why I am so drawn to them but I suspect I would never find an answer and I don't really want or need one. They joy I experience every time I find a new one is boundless. So I will drink my now drinkable coffee and wander around the house finding all the hands before I start getting mine dirty.
